French Police Detain Teenager in Terrorist Investigation

A French police officer patrols in front of Notre Dame cathedral on Sept. 9 after a car loaded with gas canisters was found nearby.

The action follows the thwarting of two terror attacks in recent days, says Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve.

PARIS—French police Wednesday detained a teenager in Paris as part of investigations in the country after the foiling of two terrorist plots, said French Interior MinisterBernard Cazeneuve.
The detention of the teenager “is part of the action of the intelligence and police services who thwarted two terror attacks in the last six days,” Mr. Cazeneuve told reporters when exiting the weekly cabinet meeting.
The interior minister didn’t give details on the teenager or why he is suspected to be linked to a terrorist plot.
Another teenager, a 15-year-old boy, was placed under formal investigation on terrorism charges after he was detained Saturday on suspicion he was preparing an imminent attack.
Earlier this week, the anti-terror prosecutor filed preliminary charges against four women linked to the discovery of a car loaded with cooking-gas canisters found near Paris’s Notre Dame Cathedral and Paris police headquarters.
One of the four women, 23-year-old Sarah H., had ties to French nationals who killed three people in recent terror attacks on French soil.
